ABOUT
FLOOR LEERMAKERS

My name is Floor Leermakers (2000). I was born in the Netherlands, in a small village in North Brabant. I have been very creative from an early age, from drawing portraits to devising and implementing designs/projects.

In 2016 I started at De Rooi Pannen in Tilburg in the field of Spatial Design. During this four-year MBO course, I carried out various projects that contributed greatly to both my development as a person and my development at designer level.

After successfully completing my studies at De Rooi Pannen as a spatial designer in 2020, I started studying at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. This is where I develop myself as a competent designer. In recent years I have experimented and implemented in various ways. For example, I have been involved in designing toys, electronics and home accessories. I also worked with different materials such as wood, metal, porcelain, earthenware and textiles.

While creating various products and projects, I increasingly realized that I would like to specialize in furniture and home accessories. I have also been fascinated by existing industrial forms for a long time. In my work I try to translate existing (industrial) forms into new, usable products. The contrast I can create with this is something that really inspires me. For example, I like bright colors in contrast with the rough, industrial shapes. I love these contrasts and opposites.

For example, I have used car parts in various projects. Raised among vintage cars, this source of inspiration was inevitable. I transformed these parts into candlesticks, vases and a lamp, among others. Car parts are often very industrial, gray and heavy. I created a contrast by replacing these solid materials with a more fragile material. To this I added a new design inspired by the car part. Here arises the contrast between originally rough, heavy parts and warm, light-footed and soft objects.

Various experiences have brought me to the place where I am now. I have a clear picture of who I am as a designer, but also as a person. I get energy from the combination of unique design and functional use. The practical application in my designs is of paramount importance. I want people to really be able to do something with my design. Due to my interest in this combination, I mainly focus on product design. Here, as a designer, I can focus on developing practical objects, while allowing them to blossom into unique designs.
